Survey works next week on Fintra Bridge route

Environmental survey works are to be carried out next week to help identify a preferred route for the upgraded R263 between Killybegs and Glencolmcille that includes Fintra Bridge.

There’s been a long-running campaign for a new Fintra Bridge, which is a key link to the entire Sliabh Liag Penninsula in Donegal.

In response to a query from Sinn Fein Deputy Pearse Doherty, Transport Minister Shane Ross confirmed that, as well as the environmental survey works next week, a consultation event on the route selection will take place early next year.

It’s expected the project will then go to the planning stage with the purchase of lands for the route next year.

€150,000 has been allocated for the project this year, with €22,264 drawn down to date.

Sinn Fein Councillor Noel Jordan says that while progress on Fintra Bridge and the upgrading of the R263 has been slow, he is encouraged by the latest news from Minister Ross.
