Facilities are not in place to support the discharge of patients from hospitals in the North West – Marc MacSharry

A Sligo/Leitrim TD is claiming more than 6,500 bed days have been lost in the north west’s two main hospitals since January 1st this year because of delayed discharges.

Bed days mean the availability of a bed in a hospital for a day.

Fianna Fail Deputy Marc MacSharry says that since the start of this year, 2,169 bed-days have been lost in Sligo University Hospital and 4,350 in Letterkenny University Hospital.

Deputy MacSharry says the required step-down facilities are not in place to support the discharge of patients from hospital.
