Wait times for podiatry in Sligo Leitrim still have a long way to go – Scanlon

A Sligo/Leitrim TD is calling on the government to make a greater effort in reducing the waiting times for podiatry services in the region.

Over half of the 400 clients across Sligo and Leitrim will have to wait more than 52 weeks for an appointment to become available which Fianna Fail TD Eamon Scanlon believes is entirely unacceptable.

This follows calls made in recent days by another local Donegal’s TD Sinn Fein’s Pearse Doherty about the lack of podiatry services in Letterkenny university hospital after the only member of staff that went on maternity leave and was not replaced.

Markievez House in Sligo is set to increase their daily services from 4 to 5 days a week to facilitate the demand. Deputy Scanlon claims this will only go some of the way to improving the massively long waiting times.
