“Patients are being harmed because of the inaction of the Government” Tony Fitzpatrick

Trolley numbers continue to soar in the North West today with Sligo and Letterkenny ranking within the top 5 worst affected in the country again today.

Letterkenny University Hospital has ranked third-worst in the country both yesterday and today and is up 1 on yesterday’s figure of 47 to 48. That translates to 15 people waiting in ED with 33 other patients on trolleys on other wards in the hospital.

Sligo University Hospital has moved up to the 4th worst affected hospital, up from 5th on yesterday’s figures.

42 patients are waiting on trolleys this morning, up 3 on yesterdays figure. This means 29 people are waiting in the emergency department and 13 other people waiting in other wards across the hospital

Tony Fitzpatrick, former ED Nurse and now Director of Industrial relations for the INMO, has expressed his frustration at the current number of trolley figures and staff at hospitals in Sligo and Letterkenny, and says it can’t continue :

Fitzpatrick claims It’s not only the patients on trolleys and staff that are suffering but the out of hospitals service that cant deal with the patients who can’t be discharged until these services in place:
