Plans lodged with Sligo Council for Swan Point development

Sligo is set to enjoy a boost to its employment and tourism with the lodgement of a planning application for the long-delayed Swan Point development adjacent to The Glasshouse Hotel.

The application follows the announcement of funding for a cultural and civic plaza 2 weeks ago.

The applicationhas been lodged by with Sligo County Council on behalf of Travac Developments Ltd for an additional 54 bedrooms for the Glasshouse Hotel and 2,946m2 of Grade A office space.

This will bring the total number of bedrooms at the Glasshouse to 170.

A representative for the Glasshouse hotel said: “ We’re delighted that planning has been submitted for Swan Point. This project will create new jobs within the hotel when completed and will add much needed bed nights to Sligo’s growing tourism product. At the moment Sligo hasn’t enough bed nights for the peak season and the peak times outside this. The Swan Point development allows the Glasshouse to offer high quality accommodation and facilitate events such as conferences which require a high volume of rooms”

When contacted for comment a representative for Vincent Hannon Architects said:  “We’re delighted to have submitted planning to Sligo County Council for the Swan Point Development. When complete the project will add an additional 54 high quality bedrooms for the award winning Glasshouse hotel.

“In addition, the office spaces will provide for Sligo’s growing business growth and the completed project will be a great visual addition to the Sligo skyline particularly as you approach from the Northern routes.

“Sligo has seen a lot of very positive investment in infrastructure and in its tourism and business product over the last number of years driven by private investors and Sligo County Council and other stakeholders. We feel that this is another positive part of Sligo’s evolution and look forward to seeing the completed project.”
