North west Gardaí conducting a number of checkpoints this bank holiday weekend

Gardaí in the north west continue to crack down on drug and drink driving this Bank Holiday weekend.

While operators of the Go Safe speed camera vans are on strike for a total of 72 hours over working conditions, Gardaí will fill any vacancies during the industrial action.

Motorists are being warned not to drink and drive and the Road Safety Authority says research shows young men are the most vulnerable group on the roads.

And as the clocks went back early this morning, it means our evenings are about to get longer.

RSA spokesperson Moya Murdoch says that has an effect on our driving.
