Quinn director says concerns ‘do not seem to have resonated strongly enough’

A Leitrim-based director of Quinn Industrial Holdings says concerns about intimidation the company expressed to authorities on both sides of the border a year ago did not seem to have resonated strongly enough.

John McCartin was speaking to Ocean FM News following media reports this weekend that the garda commissioner did not respond to a request for an urgent meeting made by QIH chairman Adrian Barden in a letter to the Justice Minister in October 2018.

Last month Kevin Lunney, an executive of QIH was abducted, tortured and beaten, suffering life-changing injuries.

Later, bales of silage owned by Tony Lunney and his brother were slashed on land owned by the Lunneys across the border from Cavan.

A spokesperson for the Garda Commissioner confirmed he had received the correspondence sent to the minister by QIH but said he had not been asked directly to meet the board or any representative of QIH.

However, a senior garda from Cavan/Monaghan did meet with member of QIH in October 2018.

However Mr McCartin says they are frustrated by the situation.

Mr McCartin now worries that when all the publicity about the attacks has died down, Quinn personnel will be left to fend for themselves.
