CEO of Killybegs Fisheries claims Cod War could return in the wake of Brexit

There has been a ‘lukewarm’ response to the fisheries aid package in Budget 2020.

€14m is to be spread out in the event of a no deal Brexit on October 31st.

Seán O’Donoghue, CEO of the Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation, says that if there is not an ‘orderly transition’ on November 1st, there could be a similar situation that occurred during the 1940’s, 50’s and 70’s; known as the ‘Cod Wars.’

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Mr. O’Donoghue says if there is no deal, there will be ‘chaos’ on the seas.
