St Nauls’s reach Donegal intermediate final

St Naul’s (pictured) are back in the Donegal intermediate football championship final following a gripping 1-9 to 1-8 win against a gallant Naomh Brid team in difficult conditions at Fintra on Saturday evening.

Naul’s had opened a six-point lead at one stage in the second-half, but Naomh Brid, managed by Donegal 1992 All-Ireland winning full-back Matt Gallagher, came right back into it in the closing quarter, despite being reduced to 14 players when Thomas Gallagher was sent off.

The Ballintra men had chances to bring the side level during six minutes of added time.  But Naul’s held on to win by one.

St Naul’s manager Barry Meehan spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Paddy McGill after the game. Listen here.

Naomh Brid bainisteoir Matt Gallagher gave his reaction too. Listen here.

In Saturday’s other semi-final, Aodh Ruadh Ballyshannon and Cloughaneely couldn’t be separated after extra-time with the sides finishing level at 0-14 each. The replay has been provisionally fixed for Wednesday night but it’s understood that neither club is happy with that. The intermediate final is scheduled for next Sunday, October 13th.
