FF Spokesperson on Sport says FAI ‘debacle’ needs to be dealt with quickly

Fianna Fail’s Spokesperson on Transport, Tourism and Sport says the ‘debacle’ around John Delaney needs to be dealt with as quickly as possible.

Mr Delaney resigned as Executive Vice President at the weekend.

The FAI announced late Saturday night the former CEO was resigning and that they would ‘fulfil certain notice and pension obligations.’

Mr Delaney is believed to be receiving a severance package somewhere in the region of €350,000 to €500,000, significantly less than he had reportedly been looking for.

Sports Minister, Shane Ross, says there will be no state funding until the full details of the package are released.

It’s now expected that UEFA President, Aleksander Ceferin, will ask John Delaney to resign from his €160,000 salary.

Speaking to OceanFM’s John Lynch, Fianna Fails Spokesperson on Sport, Tourism and Transport, Marc MacSharry says he wants to see funding returned.

Deputy MacSharry attended Sligo Rovers 1-0 defeat against Dundalk at the Showgrounds yesterday evening in the Extra.ie FAI Cup Semi-Final.

He said it was unfortunate that the weekend’s events overshadowed the night.
