Tourlestrane survive DRP scare to reach semi-finals

Defending champions Tourlestrane are through to the Belry Sligo senior football championship semi-finals – but only after surviving a scare from a gallant Drumcliffe/Rosses Point side at Scarden in Saturday evening’s quarter-final.

Tourlestrane won in the end on a final scoreline of 2-9 to 1-6.

The holders were pushed all the way by the north Sligo side in wet and windy conditions.

Drumcliffe/Rosses Point led 1-3 to 0-3 in a low-scoring first half with Cian Lally finding the net for DRP and Tourlestrane guilty of a succession of first half wides despite a good spell of possession in the opening quarter.

However, a couple of key substitutions and two second-half goals helped turn the contest the holders way.

The result was in doubt right up to the end of normal time with just two points between the teams. But in added time, Tourlestrane added 1-1 to seal the win by six points.

The remaining three quarter-finals take place on Sunday.

At Kilcoyne Park in Tubbercurry, Eastern Harps preserved their senior championship status for 2020 with a 0-14 to 0-10 win against St Molaise Gaels.
