Garda changes on hold until after Brexit

Garda chiefs will ‘hold off’ on reorganising the border divisions as part of its new policing plan until there is more certainty over Brexit.

It is still expected that the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal will merge into a new Garda division.  However any changes in personnel and the duties of certain Gardaí will not be changed until a clearer picture is available as regards the Brexit outcome.

Sligo Leitrim TD Martin Kenny is his party’s spokesperson on Justice and equality.

He says it’s vital that the proper resources are given to other department’s where some of the Garda workload is being transferred to.
