Alarming figures released on A&E waiting times for over 75’s

It’s emerged that those over the age of 75 are having to endure waiting times in access of 24 hours in accident and emergency departments in the north west’s two major hospitals.

The problem is also a cause of concern nationally with 1,295 patients waiting longer than 24 hours in an Emergency Department in August alone.

In the information which was released to Fianna Fáil, it’s claimed that so far this year. 21 patients over the age of 75 waited in Letterkenny University Hospital for a period of time longer than 24 hours and a further 20 were kept in the emergency department of Sligo university Hospital for over 24 hours.

Donegal TD Deputy and Dáil Leas Cheann Comhairle Pat the Cope says it’s unacceptable that people of this age should have to endure such long waiting times in emergency departments.
