10-man Sligo Rovers beat UCD 2-0 in Dublin

Sligo Rovers comfortably beat UCD 2-0 in Friday night’s Premier Division game at the UCD Bowl, despite having Ronan Murray sent off early on the game.

Murray received a straight red card for a late challenge on UCD’s Harry McEvoy in the 19th minute – but Liam Buckley recovered to score twice before half-time.

First, David Cawley corner-kick slipped through the hands of UCD keeper Conor Kearns and into the net.

Then, on the stroke of half-time, Romeo Parkes scored Rovers second.

The result leaves the students six points adrift at the bottom of the table with four games to go.

Ollie Horgan’s Finn Harps picked up an important point with a 0-0 draw against Cork City at Turner’s Cross.

Rovers FAI cup semi-final opponents Dundalk have edged closer to the title following a 1-0 win at Waterford. If they beat Shamrock Rovers at Oriel Park this Monday night, the title will, once again, be theirs.

Friday’s results
UCD 0 Sligo Rovers 2
Cork City 0 Finn Harps 0
Waterford 0 Dundalk 1
Shamrock Rovers 0 St Patrick’s Athletic 0
Derry City 0 Bohemians 0.
