North West schools to be disrupted by Forsa strike action

Industrial action by school secretaries across the north west is set to go ahead on tomorrow in a row with the Department of Education over pay.

A meeting between the Forsa union and department officials ended yesterday without agreement.

Forsa says most secretaries earn just 12,500 euro a year and have to sign on during school holidays.

Secretaries at 1000 schools nationwide will stop work for an hour at the start of the school day tomorrow.

Sligo Leitrim Fiann Fáil TD Marc MacSharry has accused the government of dragging out this entire process and has called on the Minister of Education Joe Mc Hugh to intervene and find a solution to prevent the strikes from taking place.
