Narrow minded agenda behind Derry attacks

A Sligo Leitrim TD has criticized those behind the latest attacks on police in Derry last night.

An improvised device, operated by command wire, was made safe in the Creggan area of Derry.

The PSNI say it was found in a parked vehicle.

Police were attacked with petrol bombs while carrying out searches as part of the operation, as a crowd of 60 to 100 people gathered.

A number of families were asked to leave their homes as the bomb was made safe.

Police believe the New IRA is responsible for the bomb which they say targetted community police officers.

Sligo/ Leitrim Sinn Fein TD, Martin Kenny is his party’s spokesperson on justice.

He says those responsible have a negative and narrow minded agenda and are putting the lives of young people at risk by carrying out these actions.

The Leitrim based TD also says the current uncertainly that is surrounding the UK Parliament is also having a destabilising effect on events in the UK and here in Ireland
