Donegal boxer Leah Gallen claims bronze medal at Euros

Donegal welterweight boxer Leah Gallen had to settle for bronze medal after losing her semi-final bout at the European Youth Championships in Sofia on Monday.

The Raphoe teenager was out-pointed by her Hungarian opponent in her semi-final. Gallen received a public warning in the second round as her opponent controlled most of the contest.

The five-time Irish champion won a bronze medal at last year’s junior world championships in Russia – and returns home from Bulgaria this week with a medal of the same colour.

Sligo’s Dean Clancy missed out on a medal after losing his bantomweight quarter-final to England’s Mohammad Adan on a split decision on Sunday.
