Returning emigrants seeking driving licences hit by ‘bureaucracy gone mad’

A Sligo/Leitrim TD says some Irish citizens returning home are not being made welcome because of the bureaucracy they are being put through in appying for an Irish driving licence.

Fianna Fail spokesman on Transport Marc MacSharry says in some cases, people who have driven for decades abroad, including driving heavy vehicles, are being asked to apply for learner permits, mandatory driving lessons and then sit a driving test.

Deputy MacSharry says that instead, we should instead be welcoming returning emigrants home with open arms.
