Torrential rain causes serious flooding in parts of the north west



Torrential rain has caused serious flooding in many parts of the north west over night.

 

In Sligo, the R287 Sligo to Dromahair Rd, known as the ‘long stretch, is flooded and is not passable to traffic.

 

In the north of the county, the N15 Sligo to Bundoran Road flooded in parts including at Bumduff, Creevykeel, Newtown, and in Grange past the Sports Hall.

 

There was also flooding at Keelogues and Ballintrillick.

 

Sligo County Council is urging motorists and other road users to take extra caution on all routes after the spell of heavy rain.

 

Up to 40mm of rain fell in parts of the north west overnight and yesterday after Met Eireann issued a status yellow weather warning.
