Dante Leverock gets five-match suspension for ‘headbutt’ incident

The Sligo Rovers defender Dante Leverock has been suspended for five games – for headbutting an opponent during Rovers 6-2 win against Limerick in the FAI Cup last weekend.

The Bermuda international captain received a straight-red card following his first-half clash with Limerick player Kieran O’Hanlon. O’Hanlon’s injury required stitches after the game.

Leverock receives an automatic one-game ban for the red card, but the FAI has imposed an additional four-match suspension on on the player

The ban doesn’t begin until next week so Leverock will be available for this Friday’s Premier Division game away to Cork City.

The five games he’ll be suspended for will include Rovers FAI Cup quarter-final against UCD. Should Rovers win that tie, Leverock would also miss the semi-final.
