Gardai warn parents not to put children’s names on schoolbags

It’s back to school time this week — and gardai are warning about having the names of children on items, such as schoolbags, where they can be easily seen by others.

Sligo/Leitrim gardai say a child will automatically presume that anyone who knows their name is not a stranger.

The gardai add that personalised items, such as pencil cases, that will not been seen as children travel to and from school are ok.

Motorists are also advised to drive with care, particularly near schools and bus stops, as the areas become busier at this time.
