Older people, those living alone in NW urged to register for Seniors Alert Scheme

A total of 3,063 people in the north west are using the Seniors Alert Scheme in the north west — and a Sligo councillor is encouraging more people to register.

A total of 975 older people in Sligo have availed of the scheme since 2015, with almost 1,600 in Donegal and almost 500 in Leitrim.

Last year, 365 people were approved for the scheme in Sligo, with 52 in Donegal and 128 in Leitrim.

In the first six months of this year, 153 people in Sligo have been approved, with 376 in Donegal and 82 in Leitrim.

Sligo Fine Gael Councillor Thomas Walsh says the monitored alarm is a great service for the elderly and those living alone, giving people a sense of independence and security while ensuring they are connected to the community.
