Navy recruits from Sligo and Donegal among those ‘passing out’ today

Defence Forces recruits from Sligo and Donegal will be among 38 newly qualified ‘Ordinary Ratings’ to attend a naval passing out ceremony in Cork today.

Flag Officer Commanding Naval Service, Commodore Michael Malone, will attend the passing out parade for the new recruits, at 12:30 on Haulbowline Naval Base.

The class’s age ranges from 18-26 years and they started their training on the 1st of April this year.

They will continue their specialist training in things like gunnery, logistics, communications and mechanical/engineering prior to being posted to the fleet as what’s known as ‘Able Rates’.

Among those passing out today will be Bartlomiej Kolalski, from Sligo town, a native of Poland.

He has been telling Ocean FM News why he decided to join the Irish Defence Forces.
