Call for HSE not to go ahead with abolition of Rehabilitative Training Allowance

A Donegal TD is calling on the HSE not go ahead with the abolition of a training allowance for those with disabilities from September 1st.

But Independent Thomas Pringle is not hopeful.

The Rehabilitative Training Allowance of €31.80 a week is paid to people who are applying to do a rehabilitative training programme.

It’s projected the cut will save €3.7m but the HSE has denied it’s a cost-saving measure, saying the money would be put into disability day services.

Despite criticism of the planned cut, Deputy Pringle fears that at this stage, it will go ahead.

Vicky Matthews is a disability rights campaigner from Ballyshannon, in County Donegal.

She has been telling the North Wet Today Show how important the Rehabilitative Training Allowance is, despite it being only €31.80 a week.
