McLoughlin: Rates reform will help businesses, county councils

A Sligo/Leitrim TD says a plan to overhaul commercial rates will be a boost for businesses and local authorities across the region.

Fine Gael Deputy Tony McLoughlin says new rates legislation means parts of towns or business sectors identified in county council plans can be supported.

He says this is because it will allow local authorities to target important national and local objectives in rates schemes.

He adds that it will also modernise how rates are levied and collected, making it more transparent for ratepayers and more streamlined for local councillors who set the rates.
