The road has now reopened both ways at Dunalley Cross following a road traffic collision.
The incident involving two vehicles occurred just before 8am this morning along the N16 outside of Sligo Town.
Occupants of both vehicles made it out of the cars suffering minor injuries.
Two adults and two children were taken to Sligo University Hospital as a precaution.
Both cars were very badly damaged in the incident and a telephone pole was also struck.
Fire and Emergency services attended the scene and Gardaí closed the road for a number of hours diverting traffic both ways.
