Countdown to Lough Gill Hospice Swim 2019

The Lough Gill Swim and Family Fest will take place on next Saturday August 17th, 2019

This annual swim event is in its ninth year now and was set up in memory of Neil McGarry who passed away in the North West Hospice.

Significant funds have been raised every year to help towards their operating costs. Last year a record breaking €41,000 was raised by the swimmers and visitors the annual family fun day.

“We hope that 2019 is another record-breaking year and hope to have reached €250,000 for the hospice over the past 9 years in total!” says Lisa McDaniel, PRO with the Lough Gill Swim Committee.

Over 100 swimmers will take part in the three swim events this year, who will travel from all over Ireland and Europe! The 10km race will start from Parkes Castle and finish at the back avenue in Doorly Park. This marathon swim is a real test of swimmers abilities; mentally and physically with the average swimmer taking 3.5to 4 hours to complete the course.  Swimmers will also take part in a 1 mile race and a team relay race.

The annual family fun day at the swim finish line will be happening next Saturday afternoon from 1.30 to 5pm.

Organisers of the Lough Gill Swim wish to thank all volunteers and sponsors for their generous support of the swim, without which we could not run such a successful event. We would like to thank especially Hazelwood House for their ongoing support.
