Primary care centres in Grange and Drumcliffe include in HSE capital plan

The health minister has given an update on the progress of a number proposed primary care centres in Sligo.

The centres provide a range of health services at local level, one of the best examples being the centre in Ballymote, in South Sligo, which Minister Simon Harris officially opened last September.

Minister Harris says proposed primary care centres in north Sligo at Drumcliffe and Grange are included in the HSE Capital Plan.

They have received planning permission and detailed design has been completed on them.

It is intended that the Nazareth Primary Care Centre in Sligo will proceed with a planning application in early 2020.

Stage 1 of the design process for Tubbercurry Primary Care Centre has been completed.

Approval has been granted to purchase a site from Sligo County Council and it is intended to progress the design in 2020, subject to funding.

A new primary care centre for Carrick on Shannon is currently being built and is due to be completed by the end of this year.

Fine Gael Senator Frank Feighan says primary care centres play an important role in our health system, and take pressure off hospital A & E departments.
