Dervish to be honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award

Traditional Irish band Dervish will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2019 for their huge contribution to folk music.

Dervish has been bringing Irish traditional music to the world for 30 years, having played at festivals across the world, from Rock in Rio to Glastonbury.

Dervish was formed in one of the country’s oldest pubs, Shoot the Crows, in Sligo.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, it was recently given a special reception by Sligo County Council, and has also released its new album, The Great Irish Songbook.

The album features the band performing with such stars as Imelda May, Brendan Gleeson, Steve Earle, Andrea Corr, David Gray, Vince Gill and others.

The BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ceremony will take place in Manchester on Wednesday, 16th October.
