Irish Water officials to meet north Sligo councillors

Councillors in the north Sligo area will be highlighting the importance of proposed new sewage treatment plants being provided as quickly as possible for the Rosses Point and Mullaghmore areas during a meeting with Irish Water officials next month.

Short prohibitions of about two days on swimming and bathing in the waters at Rosses Point and Mullaghmore were lifted at the weekend.

However, there are fears that regular bacteria tests that take place in the summer time will result in such prohibitions being repeated until the proposed new treatment plants are up and running.

Sligo Fianna Fail Councillor Donal Gilroy welcomed the lifting of the Prohibition Notices at the two resorts so quickly.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, he says Irish Water officials will meet local councillors on September 2nd.
