Tourlestrane begin title defence with victory over Shamrock Gaels



Tourlestrane began their defence of their Belfry Sligo senior club football championship title with a 1-13 to 0-10 win against last year’s intermediate champions in the county champions opening Group 1 match, played in Keash on Sunday evening.

In very wet conditions, Tourlestrane took early control of the game and led by 1-7 to 0-3 at half-time.

Gaels battled gamely in the second-half, but the county champions had the answers, and eased to a six-point win.

In the other Group 1 game this weekend, Tubbercurry go top after a 3-13 to 1-10 win against St Molaise Gaels to make it two wins out of two. View the Group 1 standings here.

In Group 2, county star Niall Murphy scored 0-16 for Coolera/Strandhill, a club championship record, in their 1-17 to 1-10 win against Coolaney/Mullinabreena on Saturday evening. Calry/St Joseph’s are top of Group 2 after an emphatic 2-21 to 1-10 win against Eastern Harps in Coola. View the Group 2 standings here.
