Tourlestrane began their defence of their Belfry Sligo senior club football championship title with a 1-13 to 0-10 win against last year’s intermediate champions in the county champions opening Group 1 match, played in Keash on Sunday evening.
In very wet conditions, Tourlestrane took early control of the game and led by 1-7 to 0-3 at half-time.
Gaels battled gamely in the second-half, but the county champions had the answers, and eased to a six-point win.

In Group 2, county star Niall Murphy scored 0-16 for Coolera/Strandhill, a club championship record, in their 1-17 to 1-10 win against Coolaney/Mullinabreena on Saturday evening.
