The Garda commissioner is considering establishing new Garda regional insurance divisions to investigate fraudulent claims.
The move is aimed at addressing the number of fraudulent claims that are made in Ireland on a continuous basis.
As a result of these claims, the cost of insurance policies for local festivals has risen and is threatening their existence in the future.
Sligo/Leitrim general election candidate Frank Feighan says it’s a situation that the Government is aware of and is taking a number of steps to address, including launching a Garda divisional focus on insurance fraud.
