Lack of home games gives Sligo Rovers financial headache

The postponement of this Saturday’s SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game between Sligo Rovers and Dundalk at the Showgrounds, because of Dundalk’s European commitments this week, means Rovers will be without a competitve home game until September 14th.

As it stands, Rovers scheduled league games during August and early September are all away from home, while their FAI Cup first round tie against Glebe North will be played in Balbriggan, on Friday, August 9th (kick-off: 7:45pm).

The club has organised a friendly against Irish League side Cliftonville this Thursday night at the Showgrounds (7:45pm).

But it is the long spell without a home competitive game – and therefore gate revenue – which will cause Rovers officials most concern.

Sligo Rovers upcoming fixtures:

Thurs, Aug 1st: Sligo Rovers v Cliftonville (Friendly), Showgrounds, 7:45pm
Fri, Aug 9th: Glebe North v Sligo Rovers (FAI Cup 1st rd), Balbriggan, 7:45pm
Fri, Aug 16th: St Pat’s v Sligo Rovers (Premier Division), Inchicore, 7:45pm
Fri, Aug 30th: Cork City v Sligo Rovers (Premier Division), Turner’s Cross, 7:45pm
