Smuggling of illegal tobacco impacting on north west businesses



The smuggling of illegal tobacco products is having a negative affect on several businesses in the north west.

The warning has been issued by the Retailers Against Smuggling group.

It claims the smuggling of tobacco is on the rise and is treating the lively hood of several retailers in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, RAS spokesperson Benny Gilsenen says additional funding should be made available for anti-smuggling measures with illegal tobacco products believed to costing the Irish exchequer in the region of 211 million euro in 2018.
