15,000 asthma suffers across the north west warned to prepare for heatwave



The Asthma Society of Ireland is today warning the almost 15,000 people across the north west who have both asthma and hay fever to take precautions in preparation for a heatwave across Europe.

Temperatures are set to rise in an intense heatwave building across Europe which will see record temperatures on Thursday of up to 42C in parts.

There are just over 9,000 people with asthma and hayfever in Donegal, over 3,700 in Sligo and just over 1,831 in Leitrim.

CEO of the Asthma Society of Ireland Sarah O’ Connor, says asthma deaths are rising in Ireland, with one person dying every six days as a result of their condition.
