Local Councillor calls for medical card holders to be issued with free school bus tickets

A third of parents will have to deny their children certain back to school items in the new school year due to the costs involved in sending children to schools

That’s a according to a recent report from the Irish league of Credit unions.

With the average cost of sending a child to secondary school standing at  €1,400 and €1,000 for national school, a local Sinn Fein Councillor has called on the Department of Education to ensure that students who have been awarded medical cards are also able to avail of free bus tickets.

Manorhamilton municipal district Councillor Padraig Fallon is calling on the Department of Education to make sure the criteria for bus tickets is extended to take these students into consideration.
