Government failing our children with inadequate health service

A Sligo Leitrim has accused the Government of failing our children, that’s after latest data shows More than 47,000 children are waiting to see a specialist at a Children’s Hospital in Dublin.

Children’s Health Ireland which collects data from the three hospitals says waiting lists at Crumlin, Temple Street and the National Children’s Hospital at Tallaght University Hospital have increased by 46 per cent in the last 3 years.

An additional 10 thousand children are waiting for outpatient appointments at other hospitals around the country many of which are based in the Counties of Sligo Leitrim and Donegal.

It also emerged the new Paediatric Outpatient and Urgent Care Centre at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, will only open on a phased basis because of vacancies in consultant posts.

Sligo Leitrim Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny says there are also a number of children suffering with other conditions that are placed on adult waiting lists.
