Fine Gael General Secretary to meet with potential candidates in Carrick-on-shannon



Fine Gael will step up their attempts to select candidate to run alongside Sinead Maguire in the next general election in the Sligo Leitrim consistency later today.

 

Tom Curran, the party general secretary will be in Carrick-on-Shannon later where he meet with all potential candidates that have expressed an interest in contesting the election.

 

 

Former TD and Senator Gerry Reynold was originally selected along with Sinead Magurie at a party convention to run in the next general election, however he recently announced that he was stepping aside from politics and would not be allowing his name to go forward in the next election.

 

Sine Mr Reynold’s announcement there has been intense speculation locally as regards who would be selected to replace him.

 

Former TD and current senator Frank Feighan is considered to be one favourites to get the party nod to contest the next election.  Others in the running include the former TD and Junior Minister John Perry, the former Leitrim Councillor John McCartin, sitting Ballinamore MD Councillor Ita Reynolds-Flynn, the current Cathaoirleacht of Leitrim County Council Enda McGloin and  Former senator Michael Commiskey.

 

The topic of selecting a second candidate for Sligo Leitrim constituency which also takes in part of north Roscommon and south Donegal is expected to be discussed at a party executive meeting that is scheduled for tomorrow night, and a final decision is likely to made before the end of the month.
