Sligo TD criticises removal of disability training allowance for young people

A local TD is criticising the government’s move to abolish a training allowance for young people with disabilities.

The Rehabilitative Training allowance is no longer being paid to new applicants from the 1st of September this year.

People who are currently in programmes will continue to receive the weekly payment of €31.80 upto a maximum of 4 years.

Speaking in the Dail, Sligo/Leitrim Fianna Fail TD, Eamon Scanlon, says it’s ‘nothing short of scandalous’.

However, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said he was unaware of the change.
