Battling Sligo Rovers earn point in Tallaght

A battling defensive performance from Sligo Rovers at Tallaght Stadium on Friday frustrated Shamrock Rovers and earned Liam Buckley’s side a 0-0 draw.

The home side dominated much of the game but wayward shooting, combined with some excellent defensive play from Sligo Rovers back five helped earn the visitors a share of the spoils. Goalkeeper Ed McGinty, in particular, made save after save as the ‘home’ Rovers were continually frustrated.

Sligo Rovers: Ed McGinty, Johnny Dunleavy, Kyle Callan-McFadden, Dante Leverock, John Mahon, Lewis Banks, David Cawley (Niall Morahan 77), John Russell (Sam Warde 67), Ronan Murray (Kris Twardek 67), Ronan Coughlan, Romeo Parkes

Subs: Sam Warde, Daryl Fordyce, Kris Twardek, Luke McNicholas, Liam Kerrigan, Niall Morahan, Brian Morley.

Elsewhere, there was disappointment for Finn Harps on Friday night as they lost 1-0 to UCD – a result which keep’s Ollie Horgan’s side looking nervously over their shoulder near the foot of the table.
