Mairead McGuinness MEP re-elected as First Vice President of EU Parliament



A north west MEP has been re-elected as the First Vice-President of the European Parliament.

Mairead McGuinness secured over 93pc of the votes to retain the position in the Parliament in Strasbourg.

The Fine Gael MEP secured 134,630 first preference votes, topping the poll in the Midlands North-West constituency in May’s European elections

MEP McGuinness says she is deeply honoured to be re-elected to the role.

MEP McGuiness says securing the position again will be vital for Ireland in a number of ways over the coming months.
