Minister says he wants to keep small rural schools open

Minister Michael Ring says the government is committed to keeping small schools open.

Minister for Education Joe McHugh and Rural and Community Development Minister Michael Ring are heading a new initiative aimed at strengthening areas with four teachers or fewer, many of which are in rural parts.

The Ministers met with a number of teachers and principals who work in small schools last week to seek ideas on how to help keep them open.

Speaking at the opening of the 3rd phase of the Shannon Blueway in Drumshanbo last Friday, Minster Ring says the government is trying to save as many small schools as possible.
