Minister requested to visit Kilcar to witness effects of post office closure

The Minister for Communications Richard Bruton is being asked to visit the village of Kilcar in Co Donegal to witness first-hand the effects the closure of the local post office will have on the community.

The request was issued during a topical debate in the Dail by Donegal Deputies, Pat the Cope Gallagher and Pearse Doherty.

Kilcar Post Office is due to close this Saturday after the current post master retires.

Fianna Fail Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher says the government’s policy on closing post offices is a major disadvantage to rural areas.

Meanwhile Sinn Fein Deputy Pearse Doherty sought an extension to the closure date to allow the decision to close the post office to be appealed.
