500 hospital support staff across to go on strike this morning

Over 500 hospital support staff across the north west region are due to go on strike this morning.

10 thousand support staff in 38 hospitals and healthcare facilities including Sligo University Hospital and Letterkenny University Hospital are walking off the job at 8am for 24 hours.

The Saolta Group says hospitals have put contingency plans in place in advance of today’s industrial action.

It says it has contacted patients whose appointments will be impacted by today’s action.

A number of elective procedures will be deferred, while there will be a reduction in outpatient, laboratory and theatre services.

Industrial Relations Officer with SIPTU for the Sligo region is Sandra Flanagan.
