A public meeting for farmers who have had GLAS payments affected as a result of a gorse fire near Ballintogher, Co Sligo two years ago is due to place tonight.
In May 2017, a large gorse fire damaged a large section of land on Killery Mountain in Ballintogher which impacted a group of about thirty farmers who have commonage there.
It’s understood the Department of Agriculture has cased or reduced a number of payments for farmers under the Green, Low-Carbon, Agri-Environment Scheme as a result of the fire.
The meeting will take place in Community Centre Ballintogher tonight (Monday) at 8pm.
Sligo, Leitrim Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny feels farmers are being treated unfairly.
