Sligo University Hospital secures planning permission for new extension

Planning permission has been granted for an extension to Sligo University Hospital.

The application includes plans for a new ward and additional car parking spaces at the hospital.

The application by the Health Service Executive will include an extension over five stories on a number of levels at Sligo University Hospital.

On level 3 and 4 there are plans for a new ward with 23 single bedrooms with en-suites and on the hospital’s second level there will be a new staff room and service accommodation.

A new single-tier multi-storey car park area will be built above the existing car park to the northern end of the hospital grounds with 90 parking spaces.

There will also be changes to the existing Out-Patients Car Park and the creation of a new entrance from The Mall for a fire tender vehicle if needed.

The existing CAT Scan unit will also be relocated as part of the plans.

Part of Sligo University Hospital is a protected structure. However the HSE says the proposed extension is not in immediate contact with the older section of the building which is protected.
