Sligo Retail Park making it easier for those with autism, sensory difficulties

Sligo Retail Park is launching a new project this Saturday aimed at making it easier for shoppers with autism and other sensory difficulties.

Trips to shops can be stressful for autistic adults and children, and they can be overwhelmed by sensory experiences or overload.

Initiatives at the Sligo Retail Park will include the availability of peaked caps for people with autism and sensory issues that will block out light and help staff identify people who may need help.

There will also be quiet hours, which will be advertised on the retail park’s Facebook page.

Dafe Orugbo, manager at 1-Plus Events, has been telling Ocean FM News about what’s planned.
