Two more Donegal TD’s call for safeguarding of Rockall fishing waters

Two more Donegal TDs are calling on the government to safeguard the rights of Irish fishing vessels in the waters around Rockall

Speaking in the Dail, Independent TD Thomas Pringle said no one has ever been aware of previous negotiations going on between Scotland and Irelaned.

He say the issue has been raised quietly behind the scenes for a number of years without the public or those affected knowing about it.

Previously, Donegal Sinn Fein TD, Pearse Doherty says if diplomatic avenues fail – Ireland must be ready to deploy Sea Fisheries Protection Agency vessels to protect Irish fishing boats at Rockall.

Meanwhile, Fianna Fail Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher is alleging the Taoiseach is failing to defend Ireland’s claim to Rockall.

Deputy Gallagher says this issue must not be left to officials to deal with, and that politicians must become actively involved.
