Talks to avert strike action by hospital staff to take place today



Talks are due to take place today in a bid to avert strike action by hospital support staff which will impact on services across the north west.

Over 500 health workers, including porters, chefs, cleaners and health care assistants, are planning to take industrial action next Thursday, the 20th of June in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

It’s in a row over a job evaluation scheme and pay increases.

Five further days of action are also planned.

The Workplace Relations Commission has called Siptu and the Department of Public Expenditure for discussions at half two today.

Paul Bell from Sitpu’s Health Division says they would prefer not to go on strike but have no other option.
