Questions about what’s happening with new sheep tagging scheme

The June deadline has come and gone for the new electronic sheep tagging system.

The system was initially expected to be implemented in October 2018 and was then extended to the 1st of June 2019.

While some farmers are double tagging their sheep and lambs, a number of marts have yet to install machines that can read the tags and provide farmers with a print out.

Kevin Comiskey is the National Vice Chair of the IFA Sheep Committee. He’s been explaining to Ocean FM’s  John Lynch what has been happening at the marts since the June 1st dead line has passed.
